There are now many options for affordable, and sometimes even free classifieds which can be utilized to advertise small businesses. A variety of web sites exist which allows the public to post anything from a business ad to a yard sale. These options allow one to advertise to a specific area, but one also has the option of exposing their business on a much wider scale as well.

One excellent tool that can be utilized are social networking sites. Anyone can advertise their business to friends and family, and via the people on their friend lists, the information goes viral to a wide range of individuals. This is a sort of digital word-of-mouth advertising which many businesses have found to be a tool they use to great success.

Of course, there is still the good old fashioned phone book available as well. Any household which has a traditional land-line receives these books, and many of them do use them when searching for goods or services. Creating a catchy and attractive ad in the phone book can also link people to their business web-site, or other social networking contacts, and they can receive more information about the business from there.

There are a variety of web sites available where average people can post their own commercials. These video sharing sites have tag lines where anyone doing a web search can be linked to their commercial, and can view all the information about the business. This creates a sense of being more personal, as potential customers can actually see the people they are about to do business with.

These video commercials can also be linked to a web site or social networking site, again giving the public the opportunity to see who owns the business. Many people prefer spending their money with small businesses anyway, and being able to have a relationship with the company promotes sales. This is something large corporations will never be able to accomplish, as CEOs and other company executives rarely deal with the public.

The Internet is, as always, a great leveler of the playing field. Whether the company is large or small, the public is able to access the information equally, and this can be done without the huge expense of creating a commercial for television. In fact, when advertising to a smaller community, television commercials are generally not that effective because most people watch cable networks.

There are always the old fashioned methods of mailing out fliers or attaching fliers to public bulletin boards, such as what one finds in grocery stores. These are still inexpensive options available to small business owners. These mailings can be printed at a print shop, but many people have their own printers available.

With the availability of free classifieds, social networking, and video sharing; there are many affordable options for new businesses to get their names out. With a little creativity, and a personal computer, anyone can take advantage of the technology. This is a powerful and affordable tool that any small business can use.
